TUI PROGRAMME

Blending urban life with the wonder of the wild!

Nestled within the expansive 40-hectare Churchill Park, our Tūī Programme offers an extraordinary “countryside in the city” experience for children aged 4-10 years.

Embracing the rich history of Glendowie Farm, the park features open pastures on the upper slopes, pockets of woodland and native bush on the lower slopes, and even the occasional grazing cattle, creating a unique blend of urban and rural environments.

Based just outside the Scout Den, our days are filled with adventure and discovery. Children enjoy whittling, exploratory walks, encounters with the local stream inhabited by eels, and practical life skills such as shelter building and campfire cooking. Engaging activities like plant identification, and occasional excursions to the nearby beach or Tahuna Torea Reserve, add an exciting and enriching dimension to the programme.

At the heart of our approach is the Tuakana-Teina relationship, where older children act as mentors and leaders, nurturing a strong sense of community, cooperation, and belonging. Our child-led learning environment, supported by planned activities based on the children’s interests, provides a holistic foundation for growth and development.

The programme is facilitated by our experienced teacher, a Glendowie local who brings warmth, knowledge, and a deep connection to the area. We maintain an adult-to-child ratio of 1:7, with a maximum of 18 children, ensuring quality interactions and individual support.

Enrolment operates on a minimum one-term commitment, as we value building strong, trusting relationships that help each child feel comfortable and develop a true sense of belonging.
